Back to Community Care for Seniors Services

Client 1 The first couple months of this year we’ve been volunteering here at the arena and we are getting fantastic benefit out of it. Now we’re just among the walkers, we’re just taking part in the program

Volunteer 1 I saw it in the paper and people were walking and I thought “gee I think I can help out a little bit” so I called Community Care for Seniors and they said “sure” they can use me here at the arena. So it’s close to my home and I knew I could make it every morning. I enjoy meeting everybody and I’m from this area. And I like to greet people and it’s just kinda makes my morning that it data-start=s out great.

Client 2 I’ve got a brand new computer and it has all kinds of bits and pieces in it that I don’t think I’m getting the true advantage of. I’ve been able to use the computer for years, but this one, it’s totally different, so I thought if I came to the class where I could ask questions and hear what the instructor was saying to everybody else, I would learn to make the most of what I have.

Instructor My name is Michael Galman, I’m an instructor for Community Care for Seniors teaching Tai Chi. This is the third year we have been doing that. And I’ve been teaching Tai Chi for I guess about fifteen years. Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese art going back close to a thousand years. And the emphasis here is on health, improving balance, dealing with such ailments such as arthritis and fibromyalgia possibly. Particularly balance is a major issue for seniors and that’s really our emphasis.

Client 3 I’ve been coming to Tai Chi here since they’ve had the class for Community Care for Seniors. Because I have a lot of arthritis and joint problems and that kind of thing, I really think that it helps.

Volunteer 2 I volunteer with the Wii bowling, and I’ve been doing this for a little period of time now. And I find that it’s a great program for the seniors because they get out and do a little bit of exercise and they have a little bit of competitive spirit which I think is really special and keeps them going. Its bowling but basically it’s done with a computer. You can do it in your own home or in a hall, you don’t need to go out to a bowling alley and you don’t get hit with a bowling ball.

Client 3 I had just moved up here and I didn’t know anyone, so i thought maybe if I got out to Wii bowling it’d give me a chance to meet people and I’ve met a lot of nice people and I look forward to it every Tuesday.
