Community Care receives donation of art works

The family’s favourite photo of Heather Seybold, in her garden with her first grandchild, taken in 1980. Her works are for sale at Community Care’s Thrift Shop March 23 to 28th.

Heather Seybold was an enthusiastic and dedicated artist whose vivid outdoor scenes, painted over six decades, portray her love for The County, her native Quebec, and The Maritimes.

After raising five children (including Dr. David Seybold of Picton), working as a librarian, and pursuing an Arts degree at Concordia University in Montreal, Heather moved to Bloomfield with her late husband, Herbert, in 1990.  An avid reader and life-long learner, Heather attended Queen’s University as a Mature Student.

Always a willing volunteer, she made many friends through The University Women’s Club, the Women’s Institute and St. Mary Magdalene Church.  She was a costumed Guide at Macaulay House, and, with her late dear friend Bill Pettit, was a volunteer deliverer of Meals on Wheels.

Heather’s colourful, energetic and evocative paintings reflect the enthusiasm she felt for community and family life, literature, art and travel, and her many long-lasting friendships.  She passed away in 2011 in her ninetieth year, after a lifetime of community participation and service.

The window of the Thrift Shop at 153 Main Street in Picton will have her oil paintings in various sizes on display from Monday, March 23 to Saturday, March 28th.  The paintings are for sale and the money raised will support seniors to live at home, as Heather did when she delivered Meals on Wheels.

The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association offers services such as Meals on Wheels, transportation to medical appointments, noon-time dinners for seniors, foot care, help with forms (including Income Tax), respite for caregivers, home maintenance, rural route reassurance and telephone reassurance programs.

The agency is partly funded by the Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care through the Local Health Integration Network and supported by donations and community fundraising efforts, such as Community Care’s Thrift Shop at 153 Main Street in Picton.
