Foot Care Clinic set to open in Rossmore
“They’re professional and they want to help you” says a client of Prince Edward Community Care’s foot care clinic. Registered nurses will now see seniors at a clinic in Rossmore in addition to the clinics in Picton and Wellington.
The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association announced today that a foot care clinic will be held regularly in the northern part of The County. In December they began delivering hot Meals on Wheels to seniors living in Ameliasburgh Ward. This is part of an effort that the agency has launched to bring services to seniors closer to where they live. The first clinic will be held on Wednesday, April 29th and with a limited number of appointments available so seniors are encouraged to call early.
“We are pleased to be delivering hot Meals on Wheels to the northern parts of Prince Edward County,” said Margaret Werkhoven, president of Prince Edward Community Care, “and now we’re also offering a foot care clinic in Ameliasburgh, thanks to the generosity of Cornerstone Church on Hwy. 62 which has agreed to provide space for this program.”
Careful and regular care of the feet is essential as people age. It can become harder to reach ones feet, the correct tools might not be readily available, and toenails can become thicker and tougher to handle. Each appointment at the foot care clinic is a half hour duration in a confidential setting with a registered nurse who has specialized training in foot care. All tools are sterilized and then autoclaved. The first appointment is $25.00 and subsequent appointments are $20.00. Most people return every 6 weeks for maintenance foot care.
Prince Edward Community Care for Seniors has been supporting seniors to live independently at home for 38 years. Services include hot and frozen Meals on Wheels, transportation to medical appointments & shopping, noon-time dinners for seniors, help with forms, reassurance programs, homemaking, yard work, snow shovelling, home maintenance and social/recreational activities. The agency is partly funded by the Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care through the Local Health Integration Network and supported by donations and community fundraising efforts. Community Care volunteers also operate a Thrift Shop at 153 Main Street in Picton.
