Successful Tag Day
Turning little paper tags into money to support local programs for seniors is the order of the day for Tag Day at Community Care for Seniors. The total raised at the two-day event was $3,325.65 and an anonymous donor took the total to an even $3,500.00
2015 marks 31 consecutive years that Community Care has held a Tag Day in The County and the first time that Joan Thissen didn’t organize it. Joan’s death on March 14, 2015 was felt by all who have been involved in this fundraiser. She was missed.
“The volunteers carried on, building upon the solid foundation created by Joan and the team of volunteers in the 30 years they organized our Tag Day,” said Debbie MacDonald Moynes, executive director.
With donation boxes around their necks over 50 volunteer taggers were stationed throughout Picton, Bloomfield, Consecon, Rossmore and Wellington, taking shifts canvassing in each location.
“We want to express our sincere gratitude to the businesses that gave us permission to have a volunteer in front of their stores” commented MacDonald Moynes.
The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association supports seniors to live at home. Services include hot and frozen Meals on Wheels, escorted transportation to medical appointments & shopping, nutrition and reassurance programs, foot care clinics, caregiver support and respite, homemaking, yard work and home maintenance. The agency is partly funded by the Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care through the South East Local Health Integration Network and supported by donations and community fundraising efforts.
