We believe in the freedom and dignity of choice; the comfort of home; a passion for volunteers.

President's Message

July 11, 2017

The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association has been providing services and support for older adults in our community for 40 years. The goal of our organization is “increasing awareness, knowledge and use of Community Care for Seniors services and programs across Prince Edward County”.

Prince Edward Community Care is lead by expert executive director and staff who research and develop effective supports and services specific to the needs of the older adult population. These services are aligned with the provincial Patients First Act and regional Older Adult Strategy currently implemented by the South East Local Health Integration Network.  Prince Edward Community Care also works in tandem with all Prince Edward County Health Service Providers to offer supports that will enable older adults to remain living independently in their homes throughout the hamlets, villages, town and rural areas of Prince Edward County.

A dedicated volunteer base delivers many of our services such as Meals on Wheels, respite to primary care givers, Home Maintenance, Social and Educational programs, active listening and escorted transportation.  Professional certified staff provide footcare and specially designed exercise programs.

Community Care recently moved to a new location on King Street, Picton and with the generous help of the Parrott Foundation, we have upgraded to a fully accessible location. As the result of 2017 Federal, Provincial and Municipal Grants as well as a grant from The Retired Teachers Foundation of Ontario and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers we are able to augment our SE LHIN funding and enhance and expand our services and supports as the senior demographic in our County rises.

For several recent years I worked as a Visiting Registered Nurse throughout The County. This experience provided me the opportunity to know that the will of most seniors is to remain living in their own homes as long as possible. I did however come to recognize that challenges do exist for older adults at home. Community Care for Seniors provides available services and supports that can assist or eliminate many of the obstacles and thereby enhancing older adult independence.

I am pleased and privileged to serve as President and Chair of the Board of this very progressive and effective organization, The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association.
