Find out all you need to know about scooters at free workshop and rodeo Sept. 20

People in need of a medical scooter, or those who are considering one for the future, are invited to a mobility workshop and scooter rodeo at the Wellington and District Community Centre Wednesday, Sept. 20th at 1 pm.

Visitors will not only be able to speak to vendors and community support staff, but can watch what is sure to be a fun scooter race with drivers from EMS, fire and the OPP.

The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association is collaborating with the County’s Community Safety & Well Being Committee to host the event.

Local businesses and organizations will be on hand throughout and there will also be vendors for seniors to talk directly about their mobility needs.

Seniors can arrange free transportation to the event from anywhere in the County by calling County Transit at 1-855-283-9640 or 613-392-9640 to reserve a spot. Space is limited so don’t delay calling.

The association has also partnered with Paul Massey of Tim Hortons to offer free refreshments, while supplies last.

Co-Chair David Fox, of the Seniors Support Action Team, is looking forward to the event. The team is one of the pillars in the provincially-mandated Community Safety and Well Being Plan.

“The County has been a provincial leader in the development and implementation of our Community Safety and Well Being Plan. One of the most entertaining and informative events in our plan that targets seniors, is this Scooter Rodeo,” said Fox. “We hope that anyone in need of, or considering for the future, a medical scooter, comes out.

He is also excited about the scooter race with drivers from EMS, Fire and the OPP.

“Let’s hope that we won’t need to perform first aid as a results of any crashes!”

All the fun is Wednesday, Sept. 20th beginning at 1 p.m. at the Wellington and District Community Centre in the Highline Hall. Admission to the event is free of charge.
